Deschutes Diaper Need
In Deschutes County, 14.6% (24,200) of children under 18 live in poverty with approximately 4,000 infants and children participating in WIC. The population of Deschutes County and Bend, OR is explicitly expected to see growth over the next few years.
Unfortunately, SNAP and WIC benefits cannot be used to purchase diapers, and there are no local charities in Bend that provide diaper assistance to families in need. With the nearest diaper bank three hours away in Portland, we know that the need is great in our area.
About Bend's first hybrid diaper bank
The Rebecca Foundation has partnered with Pure Light Family Chiropractic to open Bend’s first hybrid diaper bank in February 2018. In addition to providing cloth and disposable diapers, we will also provide personal hygiene products. The bank is located at 497 SW Century Drive, Suite 120, and will be open on select days and times (more information regarding coming soon).
Central Oregon families looking for diaper assistance can come during open hours to complete a simple request form and provide proof of child, after which they may receive free cloth or disposable diapers the same day. Disposable diapers will only be given once every two weeks per child/household. Those families interested in using cloth diapers will be given enough diapers for each child to keep till they are no longer needed, along with education on use and care for the diapers.
Bend, OR diaper bank open to all families in need who live in Central Oregon.
In-kind diaper donations accepted during Pure Light Family Chiropractic regular business hours. Please call before stopping by as Dr. David and Dr. Sarah may be with patients when you arrive.
